And explain how you felt about the experience
“Alright, let me tell you a story about one of my favourite experiences from my trip to Vietnam last summer. I remember it was a sweltering hot afternoon in Hanoi, and I was out exploring the city, when I stumbled upon a bustling street market while strolling through the Old Quarter.
It really was a feast for the senses, with lots of colourful fabrics, aromatic street food, locals and tourists bargaining fiercely with the many stall owners. I couldn’t resist the temptation and dove right in to find some souvenirs to take home with me.
After browsing through countless stalls, I came across a beautiful handmade canvas backpack, which really caught my eye. I still remember the shopkeeper, a friendly old lady, laid on the charm and convinced me to bargain for a better price. I must admit, my bargaining skills were pretty rusty, but I managed to get the bag at a price I though was a real bargain.
I remember as I walked away with my new purchase, I felt like I had conquered the market like a pro.
The experience left me feeling exhilarated, not just because of the amazing deal, but also because I got a real taste of the vibrant culture and the genuine warmth of the people in Vietnam. I knew I had made a wonderful memory to bring back home with me.
Thank you.”

Describe a time you bought something at a street market – Part 3
What kinds of street markets can you find in your country?
“In ____________, the street markets are still a pretty big part of our daily lives. You can find all sorts of markets, from traditional ones selling local produce and handicrafts, to trendy flea markets with many kinds of unique and quirky items.
I personally love exploring the many food markets, where you can find a wide variety of amazing street food from different cultures.
As well as that, the bustling atmosphere and bargaining with the vendors always makes for an exciting experience.
What’s more let’s not forget the night markets, where you can shop, eat, and enjoy live performances all in one place. Overall, the street markets in my country are always full of life and surprises.”
Do you think that traditional markets will disappear in the future?
“Well, personally,I don’t believe that traditional street markets will disappear completely in the future. Although supermarkets and online delivery services have become increasingly popular, I believe there will always be a demand for the unique atmosphere and experience of shopping in a traditional market.
Having said that, I guess these markets may face some challenges in competing with modern conveniences and may need to adapt to survive. On a personal level, I enjoy the vibrant energy and variety of products found in traditional markets, and I hope they continue to thrive in the future. Mind you, only time will tell what changes will come.”
Why do you think that people like to visit or shop at outdoor markets?
“Well, I think that many people love shopping and visiting outdoor street markets because they provide a very unique and vibrant experience.
The bustling atmosphere, the colourful displays, and the variety of goods sold are all major draws.
On top of that I think that so many people also enjoy interacting with the local vendors, as well as supporting small businesses. It’s a great opportunity to discover new and interesting products, as well as to immerse oneself in the local culture.
What’s more, I guess that bargaining and haggling adds an element of excitement and challenge to the shopping experience.
Personally, I think people enjoy visiting outdoor street markets because they offer a fun and authentic shopping experience that can’t be replicated in a traditional mall.”
Do you think that people’s shopping habits have changed in recent years?
“I believe that people’s shopping habits have changed significantly in recent years for various reasons.
Firstly, the rise of online shopping and e-commerce has made it incredibly convenient for consumers to purchase goods from the comfort of their own homes. I think that this has led to a decrease in physical store visits and an increase in online purchases.
As well as that, the influence of social media and influencers has also played a huge role in changing shopping behaviours, as people are more likely to purchase products that are recommended by their favourite bloggers and influencers.
On top of that, I guess the current economic climate and rising living costs have also caused people to be more conscious of their spending habits and opt for cheaper alternatives or wait for sales before making purchases.
Having said that, I also believe that some traditional shopping habits still remain, such as the enjoyment of physically browsing and trying on items in stores.”
What are some differences between shopping in a modern shopping mall cand a traditional outdoor market?
“Well, I guess there are quite a few differences between the two. For starters, the atmosphere is completely different. In a mall, everything is clean and organised, but in a market, there’s chaos and a really vibrant energy.
As well as that, at a market, you can haggle and negotiate the prices, which is always fun and adds some excitement to the experience.
What’s more, let’s not forget the unique and authentic products you can find at markets, compared to the generic and mass-produced items in malls.
It’s also a great way to support local businesses and get a taste of the local culture. Don’t get me wrong, malls have their conveniences, but for me, nothing beats the charm and character of a traditional market.”
