IELTS speaking part 1 – Musical instruments

Have you ever learned to play a musical instrument?

ielts speaking part 1 musical instruments“Yeah, actually,I tried learning guitar in high school but only got as far as playing a couple of chords. To be honest, I was too impatient to stick with it. “

“Yes I have, I learned to play the piano when I was a little kid, and It was one of my childhood passions. I took lessons for several years, and I really loved the challenge of learning new songs and the feeling of accomplishment when I mastered a difficult piece. Although I don’t play as often now, I still enjoy it when I have the chance. “

“No, to be honest, I haven’t. I’ve always been more interested in listening to music, rather than playing it, so I never took the time to properly learn an instrument. Plus, my coordination isn’t the greatest, so I don’t think I would be very good at it anyway.”

Which musical instrument do you enjoy listening to the most?

“I absolutely love the piano! I think the sound is so soothing and elegant. It’s like it can play any kind of music and make it sound amazing. Whenever I hear someone playing the piano, it just puts me in a good mood. It’s definitely my favourite instrument to listen to.”

“I really love the guitar because it sounds super cool and it’s really popular too. When I hear someone playing the guitar, it makes me want to dance or sing along. It’s also so versatile, so it can be used in different types of music. Plus, it just looks really cool!”

Are there any traditional musical instruments from your country?

musical instruments“Yes, there is a traditional instrument from my country called the erhu, which is a kind of stringed instrument that is played with a bow. It’s really cool and sounds really good in traditional Chinese music. We use it a lot and it’s been around for a long time.”

“Yes, in my country we have a traditional instrument called the flute. It is used to make music and has a long, thin shape with holes for fingers to cover. It is played by blowing air into the mouthpiece and moving your fingers to change the notes. It’s really cool!”

Is there any musical instrument that you would like to learn in the future?

“I would really love to learn to play the guitar some day. I think it would be so cool to strum along to my favourite songs and maybe even write my own music! Plus, guitars just look really cool and it seems like a fun instrument to play. Maybe one day I’ll finally pick one up and start learning!

To be honest, I don’t think so, as I’m not that into music. Plus, learning an instrument seems like a lot of work and I’m actually pretty lazy. I’ll just stick to singing in the shower for now. Maybe in the future if I change my mind, but for now I’m good.”

Do you think that children should learn to play a musical instrument in school?

musical instrumentYeah, I think kids should learn to play a musical instrument in school, but only if they want to. It’s a cool skill to have and can be super fun, but it shouldn’t be forced on anyone. If you’re not into it, then it’s just gonna be a big bummer, so let the kids choose!”

“Yeah, definitely! I think that playing music is so cool and fun. As well as that, it’s also good for your brain and helps you develop skills like focus and creativity. On top of that, you might discover you’re really good at it and become a famous rockstar one day! Who wouldn’t want that?”
