“As i’m a student, I share a dormitory with 2 other students.

Is there anything you would like to change about your home?

“I moved into my current home about 2 years ago.

Part 2

Describe a house or apartment that you would like to live in.

You should say:

  • Where it would be .
  • What it would be like.
  • Why you would like to have it.

And explain how you would feel about it.

describe a home or apartment you would like to live in“Oh! This is a simple one for me because it’s something I frequently daydream about. I’m not into grand houses or showing off, so it would be a modest home, but the location would be the most  important thing to me.

I’ve always wanted a beautiful  log cabin next to a quiet and tranquil lake, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, since I can remember. The ideal location would be far enough out of town to avoid the city’s noise and people while still being close enough to drive to work every day.

The house itself would be a log cabin, as I mentioned, but with all of the contemporary conveniences, as I require them.  I’d prefer at least two bedrooms so that I could invite friends or family to my lakeside barbecues on weekends. Another must-have feature would be lots of large windows, not only for natural light, but also for a complete view of the lake….. I enjoy cooking, so a large, well-designed kitchen would be ideal, with a big wooden dining table and chairs.

A large master bedroom with a high wooden ceiling and a large ensuite bathroom would also be great…. …Oh, and a jacuzzi, of course….why not…

The garden would overlook the lake and have a BBQ area and possibly a pleasant porch to sit on in the evenings while watching the ducks and other wildlife go about their business.

I also enjoy fishing, which is another reason I would like to own a home in this location, and I truly believe it would be ideal for me. It’s something I’ll absolutely keep working toward in the future, and hopefully one day I’ll be able to live in a home like this, and make the dream a reality.

Thank you.

Notes: Take note of the grammar in this topic, and the use of could and would. There are always a lot of part 2 topics that require you to use this tense, and you should not be using will or can as you speak. This is more like the 3rd conditional tense. “If i won a million dollars, I would buy a big house.” I will probably never win a million dollars, so I must use the 3rd conditional tense.

  • Describe a person you met once and would like to meet again.
  • Describe something you would like to learn in the future
  • Describe something you would like to buy.
  • Describe a city you would like to visit

You will maybe never meet this famous person or visit this city, so you should speak in the 3rd conditional.

If i could meet any famous person, I would love to meet Bill Gates. If i met Bill Gates, I would ask him lots of questions about how he became so successful .

Describe a house or apartment you would like to live in – Part 3

Is it easy for young people to buy their own home today?

“No, certainly not. It’s actually incredibly difficult for most young people to buy their own home today, and it’s becoming a serious social problem here. The cost of housing has risen sharply in recent years, and it’s becoming impossible for many young people to even dream of buying their own home. Furthermore, in order to borrow money, a deposit of over 25 % is needed, which in itself is again impossible for most young people.

I really believe the government needs to take more action on this, and do something to make it more attainable for young people or couples to buy a home. I would love to see the government create more affordable housing projects, or maybe a lower deposit for first time buyers. “

Do people in your country usually buy a home or rent?

“Generally speaking , I think everyone wants to buy a home of their own rather than rent, especially young married couples. However, due to the recent skyrocketing of housing prices, a lot of people can only dream of buying their own home, and have no choice but to rent.

On the other hand, most  young single people are  normally happy to rent, as I guess they are not ready to be tied down with the burden of trying to buy a home of their own. Having said that, there is a lot of pressure in my country, especially for young males to own a house of their own before marrying, and it’s even something that their future parents- in-laws will expect, or even demand. “

What are some differences between living in a house and living in an apartment?

“I think the number one difference would be privacy and space. Living in a flat or apartment means having people living directly above and below you, as well as just the other side of the wall. As I think we all know, bad neighbours can be a real nightmare, and living in a nice detached house would do away with that problem.

On top of that a house is of course generally much more spacious than an apartment, and more suitable for a family. Another great advantage of a house is being able to have a private garden and all that personal space, which makes it seem much more like a real home compared to an apartment with shared walls.”
