Describe a quiet place you like to go to – IELTS speaking

Describe a quiet place you like to go to.

You should say:

  • Where it is
  • How often you go there
  • What you do there

And explain why you like this place

describe a quiet place you like to go to“Well, as I live in a very busy city, I sometimes really need to escape the noise, and crowds, as well as finding a place where I can just chill out and relax in peace.  My favourite place to go is a small cafe which is about 3 kilometres from my home, and only takes me about 10 minutes to get to on my motorbike. The cafe is located in the suburbs on an extremely beautiful lake, surrounded by many different kinds of trees, and is a world apart from the busy city centre.

I try to go there at least 3 or 4 times a week, and usually bring my laptop with me, as I find I can be very productive in this peaceful environment, and get lots of work done, in a short space of time. I love being able to sit at a quiet table outside on a perfect sunny day, with the many trees to shade me from the hot sun. I’m also able to sit right on the bank of the lake, with a view which is out of this world.

I guess the main reason I love to go to this place is because it’s just so quiet and peaceful, and I can get away from all the noise, as well as the hustle and bustle of the city centre, which sometimes drives me crazy. Another reason I like to go to this place is that I find the tranquil environment really, both inspires and motivates me in my work….. And I’m able to be much more productive than I would be if sitting in a noisy office or a busy city centre coffee shop. So…yeah, this is a quiet place i love to go to.

Thank you…”

Do you think big cities have any problems with noise pollution?

describe a quiet place you like to go “Yes, I think there are actually some very serious problems with noise pollution today. I live in Hanoi which is a very large and busy city, with constant noise day and night. During the day most of this noise can be attributed to heavy traffic and construction, while at night it can be even worse with the ear-splitting sound of karaoke, as well as music blasting from the speakers outside of restaurants and shops.

I strongly feel that it’s time for the government to try and do more about this terrible problem, which is really having a negative effect on so many people’s lives. Drivers need to learn to stop sounding their horns unnecessarily, and the level of music played outdoors must also be controlled, and it must be made a punishable offence if these rules are not followed.”

Why do you think that people like to be alone in a quiet place sometimes?

describe a quiet place you like to go“Personally, I think just about everyone needs some time alone every now and again, to get away from everything. I think that spending some time alone in a peaceful and tranquil environment allows us to chill out, and often allows us to think in a clearer way. Sometimes it’s much easier to think about different things, or problems when there are no distractions coming from all the different sounds of a busy city, such as car horns, construction, screaming kids and more.”

Do you think older people prefer to live in quiet places more than young people?

“Generally speaking, yes, I think older people actually need a quieter environment than younger people. I think older people really appreciate some peace and quiet, especially after a long day at work, when they usually just want to relax and chill out. In contrast a lot of young people often find a very quiet environment to be boring, and want more excitement in their lives, and enjoy the sound of loud music playing or people having fun.”
