Describe a photo that you are proud of

You should say:

  • When you took it
  • Where you took it
  • What is in the photo

And explain why you are proud of it

describe a photo that you are proud ofWell I’m certainly not a photography geek, but I do like to take photos now and again using my smartphone camera. I remember about a year ago I went on a trip to Phu Quoc, which is a very beautiful island in the south of Vietnam, and famous for its amazing sunsets.

I guess like most tourists, I really wanted to get that perfect shot of one of the island’s famous sunsets. I remember, I first did some research online to try and find out the best spots to photograph the sunset on the island. After deciding on what I thought would be the best location, I made sure to get there early as I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity.

The sunset certainly wasn’t a letdown, and lived up to its reputation.

I don’t actually remember how many shots I took, but I’m sure it was at least a few dozen, and I just hoped that even a few of them would do it justice.

After I got back to my hotel room, I started going through all the photos I had taken on my phone, and there was one that really stood out. It was the perfect shot, and really captured the beauty of the sun setting over the beach, with the sea in the background.

I felt proud as punch when i looked at it, and couldn’t wait to post it on my social media account, for the world to see. Within just a few minutes I started to receive lots of likes and complementary comments on the post, which really made me feel so proud of it.

Thank you.”

Describe a photo that you are proud of – IELTS speaking part 3

Do you think that anyone can take a good photo?

describe a photo that you are proud of“Well, I certainly think that taking great photos is easier than in the past, when it required an expensive camera as well as some knowledge in photography to take a good photo. However with the advancement in smartphones today, I think it’s become possible for just about anyone to take a good shot, with very little knowhow or expertise needed. Almost all smartphones today have a good camera, and are loaded with software and filters that makes us all a budding photographer.”

Do people in your country enjoy taking photos?

“Yes, generally speaking most people love taking photos, especially with their smartphones, which have basically given everyone a camera in their pocket. It’s not really possible to go anywhere today without seeing people taking some kind of photo, whether it’s friends capturing a moment together, someone taking a selfie to add to their social media, or even people taking pictures of their food before eating it.

What’s more, most young people today are very photogenic, and certainly not camera shy, and are always happy to capture the moment on camera.”

Why do you think some people don’t enjoy having their photo taken?

describe a photo you are proud of“I think some people are genuinely camera shy, and really don’t enjoy having their photo taken. Personally, it’s something I really don’t enjoy, and like some others, I’m just not photogenic. What’s more, some people maybe don’t feel so confident in the way they look, and feel embarrassed to have their photo taken. I think it’s also important to respect people’s feelings, and if someone does not feel comfortable having their photo taken, it should not be forced upon them.”

What kinds of things do people like to take photos of?

“Well, I think these days that people like to take photos of just about anything. I guess taking lots of photos at family get-togethers is something everybody does, as well as photos of children growing up. On top of that, many people enjoy taking pictures of beautiful natural scenery, especially if they are travelling, and then posting them on their social media accounts. Another thing people today seem to love is taking photos of food, and so many people seem to enjoy nothing more than posting shots of their dinner on their facebook page.”

Do you think social media has changed the way we take photos?

describe a photo that you are proud of“Yes, certainly…..I think social media has had a huge effect on the way people take photos, as well as what people take photos of. I think a lot of people like to show off, and enjoy posting photos of a meal in an expensive restaurant, or a new designer handbag on their social media. I think this is possibly a negative thing, and people almost seem to forget what is actually important.

Having said that, I guess technology, especially smartphones have also made it easier to capture and remember moments that are actually important. Nobody goes anywhere without their phone these days, so no photo opportunity is ever missed.”
